Boop - Interaction Design (UI)

This project involved designing a “humanized” smartphone-controlled digital device. We had to use a goal (task) lead design process to define interaction and develop appropriate specifications for functionality and use. Also, basic product design and prototype interface designs had to be provided. Lastly, we had to suggest an appropriate testing methodology and deploy this to produce a report on the UI effectiveness.

The product we designed was a smart wristband called Booper that is accompanied by the companion mobile app Boop. The device is designed with the person on-the-go in mind and includes the latest tech to make strides in modern living. It allows the user to make secure payments in an instant by simply tapping (or “booping”) the device against a card reader.

What sets it apart from other contactless payment methods such as Apple Pay and Google Pay is that it can be used to not only make credit card payments but also travel card (e.g. Leap card) and loyalty card transactions, essentially having an all in one “card”.

The primary target audience for this device is the commuter; however, it can be used by anyone with too many cards filling up their wallet, who is always on the go or just conscious of the plastic footprint we leave on our planet.

The device is designed to be water resistant, made from durable plastic and rechargeable batteries to maximise the lifespan of the device. The application is made to be simple, easy to understand and most importantly, with the user in mind – quickly check the account balance, top up travel cards or de-activate the bracelet if lost or stolen.
