Saul Bass Movie Poster

For this assignment, I was tasked with creating a movie poster inspired by the iconic design style of Saul Bass, known for his minimalist visual language, bold colour blocking, and cut-paper aesthetic influenced by Henri Matisse and the De Stijl movement.

I designed a poster for I Know What You Did Last Summer, constructing the composition manually using cut-out paper shapes to replicate Bass’s signature simplicity and strong silhouette forms. The typography, tagline, director’s name, and release date were hand-drawn and cut out to maintain an authentic handmade quality.

My poster reflects Saul Bass’s distinctive style through its use of flat colour, sharp geometric silhouettes, and a limited palette to convey drama and tension. The bold, simplified imagery and strong compositional contrast mirror Bass’s approach to visual storytelling, creating an immediate and memorable graphic impact while capturing the mood of the film.
