Infographic Timeline
For this assignment, I was tasked with creating an A3 infographic poster for a classroom wall titled “Graphic Design – A Brief History.” The goal was to visually communicate three major design movements across different decades using minimal text and strong visual cues.
I designed a vertical timeline-style infographic, selecting one design movement from each required category:
1920s – Art Deco: Represented with bold geometric shapes and gold-and-black motifs typical of the era’s architecture and poster design.
1950s – Pop Art: Illustrated using vibrant comic-style graphics with halftone dots, bright colours, and dynamic “POP!” imagery to reflect the bold, consumer-influenced aesthetic of Pop Art.
1960s – Minimalism: Depicted with clean geometric compositions and simple colour blocks to show the movement’s focus on reduction and clarity.
To make the poster visually engaging and classroom-friendly, I incorporated principles of design such as contrast, hierarchy, alignment, and balance, pairing simple graphics with a clear visual timeline. The layout emphasises imagery over text, as required, allowing viewers to quickly understand the historical progression of graphic design styles at a glance.
