'Ready to Hang' Wall Art

For this project, I created a finished wall-art piece inspired by nature, combining both design elements and principles explored during my initial sketches. My final artwork features a playful panda scene set within a bamboo forest, using a digital illustration approach.

Elements of Design Applied:

Colour: I used a vibrant green palette for the bamboo to create an immersive forest environment, contrasted with the pandas’ black-and-white colouring. This contrast helps the pandas stand out clearly as the focal point of the composition.

Shape: The artwork relies heavily on simple geometric and organic shapes, rounded forms for the pandas, elongated cylinders for the bamboo, and stylised leaves. These shapes help create a clean, modern visual style suitable for IKEA-style wall art.

Principles of Design Applied:

Balance: The composition uses symmetrical balance through the placement of bamboo on both sides, creating a structured frame around the central scene. The pandas are arranged to guide the viewer’s eye from foreground to background smoothly.

Emphasis: Visual emphasis is created using scale. The large panda head in the foreground immediately captures attention, drawing the viewer into the scene before leading them toward the smaller pandas in the mid-ground and background.

This final piece combines clean shapes, bold colour contrasts, and thoughtful composition to create an engaging, nature-inspired artwork that aligns with the brief for IKEA’s “ready-to-hang” wall-art range.
