Principles of Design

For this project, I was asked to pretend to be commissioned by IKEA to create a concept for a piece of ready-to-hang wall art inspired by nature. Continuing from my exploration of the Elements of Design, I created a new series of sketches focusing on 2–3 Principles of Graphic Design. The goal was to build on my earlier ideas and see how combining elements and principles could strengthen the overall composition of the nature-inspired wall art.

Throughout this task, I made notes beside each sketch explaining how the principles changed the overall design. I also considered how the elements I had tested earlier (colour, shape, texture) interacted with the principles - for example, how repetition strengthens geometric shapes, or how contrast works differently with organic forms.

This stage of development allowed me to refine my ideas further and move closer to a well-balanced, visually engaging final IKEA-inspired artwork.
