Chinese Market Wedding Card

For this assignment, I was required to design two wedding card covers that demonstrate an understanding of colour theory, colour psychology, and cultural associations. One design needed to be appropriate for a Chinese consumer market, while the second needed to suit a British consumer market. Both cards had to include English text for assessment purposes and visually reflect culturally meaningful colour combinations.

For this card, I designed a wedding greeting specifically for the Chinese market, applying culturally significant colour choices and traditional symbolic imagery. Red and gold were used as the primary colour scheme, as red represents joy, prosperity, luck, and celebration in Chinese culture, while gold symbolises wealth, success, and good fortune. Together, these colours are traditionally associated with weddings and are believed to bring blessings to the newlyweds.

The card incorporates classic Chinese motifs, including the double happiness (囍) symbol, a phoenix, and a dragon - each representing harmony, marital bliss, and the balance between feminine and masculine energies. Floral gold line art at the bottom adds elegance and reinforces the luxurious aesthetic. A formal serif script was selected for the English text to complement the ornate visuals while maintaining readability and sophistication.

This design combines culturally meaningful colour psychology, symbolic imagery, and refined typography to create a visually striking wedding card that feels authentic to Chinese wedding traditions while remaining suitable for an English-language market.
